The Second Issue on Swiss Cable Cars: The Titlis Cable Car
On 8 November, Swissmint is issuing the new Titlis cable car silver coin , the second in the three-part series on Swiss cable cars. The major project in Engelberg is intended to contribute to the successful future of tourism in the region, both in the medium and long term.
The Titlis air cable car follows the Klein Matterhorn air cable car.
Swissmint produces exclusive and limited-edition collector coins under the name “Swiss special coins”. The latest special coin, “Titlis cable car”, is the second in a three-part series on Swiss cable cars. With its summit at over 3,000 metres, the Titlis is one of the most internationally renowned tourist destinations in Switzerland. The new TITLIS 3020 construction project represents a major architectural and aesthetic upgrade of the buildings and facilities, and will significantly increase the safety and quality of the Titlis experience. The overall concept is made up of three main elements and involves rebuilding the mountain station, extending the transmission tower and a new single-track aerial tramway on the Stand-Titlis route.

The 20g special coin “Titlis”, made of 999 silver, stands out thanks to its impressive attention to detail on the obverse side, which shows part of the mountain peak and the original mountain railway cabin. The reverse depicts the entire Titlis massif and the face value of CHF 20. 3,050 coins will be issued in proof quality in a case, 200 coins in proof quality in a presentation case with artist’s certificate and 11,000 uncirculated coins.
Following the initial launch of the “Klein Matterhorn” in March 2023, the trilogy will be completed by the “Schilthorn” special coin, which will be issued in April 2024. “With the launch of the three special coins, we are honouring the respective regions and their projects. As the Federal Mint, we are proud of Swiss tourism and want to express our respect for it with series like these and do our part to share these stories with the world,” says Jan Niklas Betz, Deputy General Manager & Head of Marketing/Sales at Swissmint.

The Federal Mint Swissmint produces Swiss franc coins on behalf of the Swiss Confederation.
