Outstanding Women in Silver and a Break for 5-Euro Coins: Germany’s 2025 Commemorative Coin Programme
In 2025, several important events and figures will be honoured with German commemorative coins. Among them are the celebrations of the German city of Chemnitz being chosen as the European Capital of Culture and the 75th anniversary of the Berlinale film festival. In addition, a series dedicated to outstanding women will be issued. Several coin series, including series on social and cultural topics as well as on masterworks of German literature, will be continued or introduced.
In 2025, Chemnitz will be the European Capital of Culture and the Berlinale will take place for the 75th time. In celebration of these special occasions, the Federal Ministry of Finance will issue one 20-euro silver coin each.
The 35th anniversary of German reunification will be honoured with a 2-euro coin. And the “Saarland” issue is the next coin in the 2-euro series “Bundesländer II”, presenting Germany’s federal states. Both 2-euro coins are legal tender within the entire Eurozone.
In this year, the new series “Prägende Frauen” (women who shaped our world) will be introduced, honouring outstanding women. The series will be kicked off by the 20-euro coin “50 Years International Women’s Year”, followed by the 20-euro coin “Elly Heuss-Knapp – 75 Years Müttergenesungswerk”:

The 10-euro series “Im Dienst der Gesellschaft” (In the service of society) will be continued in 2025 with an issue for the “Technisches Hilfswerk”, Germany’s Federal Agency for Technical Relief. This series focuses on the special importance of professionals who are indispensable for our society as a whole and the lives of every single person. The issue “Technisches Hilfswerk” is an expression of respect and appreciation for those who constantly give their best for the common good.
The 100-euro gold coin series “Masterworks of German literature” presents its latest issue “Aus dem Leben eines Taugenichts (Eichendorff)”. The 50-euro gold coin series “German Craftsmanship” is continued with the coin “Health”. And “Lynx” continues the 20-euro gold coin series “The Return of Wildlife”.
Just in time for Christmas, the fifth and last coin of the “Christmas” series will be released at the end of 2025: the 25-euro silver coin “Three Wise Men”.
