Coin Shop Looted in Michigan

by The Numismatic Crime Information Center

Investigators are investigating a burglary that occurred at a coin shop in South Eastern Michigan on 16 December 2024. The victim wants to remain anonymous.

Suspects gained entry into a bathroom window by prying off security screens and breaking the glass. The bathroom window was the only one without a sensor. Once inside suspect/suspects quickly shoveled Silver Eagles, 90% bulk silver coins, 200-300 cull silver dollars. Additional items taken were misc. foreign coins such as copper nickel Russian Roubles (modern), Newfoundland small cents from 40s, aluminum Somali coins with animals on them, Peruvian brass sols, and common British farthings.

Unique items taken were about a dozen very scarce silver medals of the United States Diplomatic Courier Service, 50th Anniversary- silver dollar sized in blue plastic 3×5 holders.
