Two-Euro Ticker: New 2-Euro Coins in February 2025

February was a relatively quiet month following the World Money Fair, where several new 2-euro coins were unveiled. Only Italy issued a new 2-euro coin in February.

Italy: Iubilaeum / Holy Year 2025
Italy released a 2-euro commemorative coin on 5 February 2025 to mark the Holy Year or Jubilee 2025. The coin will be available in multiple versions. A total of 2,973,500 pieces will be minted as circulation coins. Of these, 250,000 coins will be packaged in rolls of 25 with specially designed paper and offered at a price of 68 euros per roll. The remaining 2,723,500 coins will also be released in rolls, available at face value of 2 euros per coin. A special coin card in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) quality with an edition of 12,000 pieces will be sold for 15 euros. Collector’s editions in Proof (PP) quality are also available. A cased edition of the coin, limited to 12,000 pieces, will be priced at 30 euros. The commemorative coin will also be included in the proof set, which will be released on 18 November 2025 and will feature all regular Italian circulation coins in Proof quality, along with two additional 2-euro commemorative coins: “Jubilee 2025” and “World Voyage of the School Ship Amerigo Vespucci 2023-2025”. The mintage for this set is 2,500, priced at 110 euros.

In March 2025, two exciting 2-euro commemorative coins from Spain and France will be released, celebrating significant European cultural landmarks.
Spain
Spain continues its UNESCO series with a coin honouring the old town of Salamanca, which will be issued on 10 March 2025. The city has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988 and is renowned for its stunning architecture, including the University of Salamanca, one of the oldest in Europe, and the impressive Plaza Mayor. A total of 2 million coins will be minted.
France
Only eight days later, on 18 March 2025, France will issue a 2-euro commemorative coin dedicated to the Louvre. The world-famous Parisian museum, home to masterpieces such as the Mona Lisa, attracts millions of visitors each year and is considered one of the most significant art museums in the world. The French coin will be released in a relatively small mintage of 300,000 pieces, supplemented by 15,000 in special quality.
There is also an addition to the planned themes for 2-euro coins in 2026. Slovenia has already announced a 2-euro commemorative coin for 2026 dedicated to the 150th birthday of Ivan Cankar. Cankar is regarded as one of the most important Slovenian writers and playwrights, whose works address profound social and political themes. Through his essays, plays, and novels, he played a key role in shaping modern Slovenian literature. The coin will not only commemorate Cankar’s literary legacy but also highlight his influence as a thinker and critic of his time. It is expected to be particularly interesting for collectors of coins with literary or cultural significance.

An exciting development is taking place in Luxembourg. The two 2-euro coins marking the 75th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration and the 25th anniversary of the accession of Grand Duke Henri will, for the first time, be issued in a variant with colour application. The annual coin cards will be available in two different versions—one with and one without colour application.
