2-Euro Ticker: New 2-Euro Coins in June 2024

After the month of June, 2-euro coin collectors are certainly due for a well-earned vacation: they have survived two hectic issue dates, with problems arising regarding the French Olympic coins, while the small stamp museum in Monaco appears to have perfectly coped with the rush of interested buyers. France: The 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris

On the occasion of the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, France issued a new 2-euro commemorative coin. The Games are an important event for France and the global community, with athletes from all over the world competing in Paris. The coin was issued on 4 June 2024 with a mintage figure of 24,010,000 BU specimens and 24,000 Proof specimens.

Monaco: 500th Anniversary of the Treaty of Burgos with Charles V (1524-2024)

Monaco launched a new 2-euro commemorative coin for the 500th anniversary of the Treaty of Burgos with Charles V. This treaty marks an important moment in Monaco’s and Europe’s history. The coin was issued on 17 June 2024. 15,000 Proof specimens were produced, and there were no BU coins. The was a real rush for the coins on the issue date of this piece, but sales went smoothly.

Greece: 150th Birthday of Penelope Delta

Greece issued a new 2-euro commemorative coin for the 150th birthday of Penelope Delta. Penelope Delta was an important Greek writer and one of the best-known authors of modern Greek literature. The coin was issued on 17 June 2024 with a mintage figure of 746,500 BU specimens and 3,500 Proof specimens.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the restoration of democracy in Greece, the country issued a new 2-euro commemorative coin. The date recalls the important moment in Greek history when military dictatorship was abandoned and democracy restored. The coin was released on 17 June 2024 with a mintage figure of 746,500 BU specimens and 3,500 Proof specimens.

Outlook

July will be particularly exciting for collectors of 2-euro coins as there are three special releases to look forward to: Croatia will issue a coin honouring the old town of Varaždin on 2 July 2024, with a mintage figure of 195,000 BU specimens and 5,000 Proof specimens. It is the first coin in a new series dedicated to Croatian cities.

On 3 July 2024, the Vatican will issue a splendidly designed coin for the 750th anniversary of the death of Thomas Aquinas with a mintage figure of 67,000 BU specimens and 9,900 Proof specimens.

On 4 July 2024, Portugal will issue a coin celebrating the participation of the Portuguese team in the 2024 Paris Olympics, including 510,000 BU specimens and 10,000 Proof specimens. And there is a particular detail: the coin is partially coloured and is already worth about 150 euros on the secondary market.

Moreover, the new designs for 2024 coins from Andorra and 2025 coins from Slovenia were met with enthusiasm from the 2-euro community. While Andorra presented a creative and original design for its topics “100 Years Alpine Skiing in Andorra” and “UCI Mountain Bike World Championships – Andorra”, Slovenia celebrates the 100th birthday of cartoonist Miki Muster by featuring his most popular illustrations on a 2-euro circulation coin.
