The Zurich International Coin Fair 2023

By Ursula Kampmann, translated by Anna Velten

Rarely had there been such large crowds before: when the 51st coin fair opened its doors, visitors were queuing to get inside.

The 20-Franc “Swiss Shooting Sport Federation” in High Relief

The reason for this was the announcement of a major special sale by Swissmint. It offered 1,000 numbered pieces of its first High Relief coin: inspired by the 20-franc silver coin “Swiss Shooting Sport Federation”, Swissmint issued this special version in cooperation with CIT at a sales price of 135 Swiss francs – a price which still leaves room for the secondary market. No wonder that many collectors and bargain hunters set out to secure this valuable haul at a low sale price. Most of them got disappointed. The coins were sold out within minutes. Unfortunately, some of the disappointed vented their anger on those who had sold them their admission ticket, as if the special sale were the only reason to visit the Zurich coin fair!

Collecting Is More than Bargain Hunting!

In fact, collecting is far more than just bargain hunting. Those who took the time to visit the many booths were able to get into conversation with practically all the major coin dealers of Switzerland. They were all there. Many of them had interesting products or a few very special pieces from their next auction with them. The following shows a few photos which we took of some supporters and dear colleagues of CoinsWeekly.
