Conservator at the Munich state coin cabinet
Martin Hirsch (*1969) studied art history at Ludwig-Maximilian-University Munich (LMU / Magistra Artium 2000), as well as museum and exhibition practices at LMU and the Munich Pinakothek (2001 – 2004.) In 2006 he received his doctorate, writing about late gothic clay plastic art.
After working as a research associate in training at the Munich state museums (2006-2007), he became research associate at the coin cabinet (2007-2010), where he then was appointed conservator for Renaissance and Baroque medals, post-antiquity cut stones and medieval coins in 2010. More recently, he initiated the exhibit “Wettstreit in Erz. Porträtmedaillen der deutschen Renaissance”, which was organized by the coin cabinets of Munich, Vienna and Dresden, as well as the art historical institute of the University of Munich.
With a focus on Renaissance medals, Dr Hirsch is lecturer at Ludwig-Maximilian-University Munich.
Furthermore, he is editor of the Jahrbuch für Numismatik und Geldgeschichte, collaborates on the Survey of Numismatic Research (department of medal art), and is a member of the academic committee of the Numismatische Zeitschrift (Vienna.)

Recently Dr Hirsch organized two conferences: “Die andere Seite” (2014) and “Stadtbilder” (2015).
