Huletski, Dzmitry

Dzmitry Huletski (*1981) is a Belarusian numismatist, researcher, and author specializing in Eastern European coinage. He is best known for his extensive publications on the monetary history of Russia and Lithuania and his expertise in digital tools for numismatic research.

Huletski developed an early interest in numismatics, focusing on medieval and early modern coinage of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. His meticulous research has led to numerous scholarly contributions, particularly the classification of medieval coinages and proto-coinages including the fur money of Ancient Rus’.

Huletski is founder and the chief editor of the research series “Rus’, Lithuania, Horde – journal of numismatics and sigillography” (Minsk-Moscow, since 2015). In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded the Gold Mark of the Belarusian Numismatic Society in 2017. Demonstrating his commitment to fostering historical research, he established the Boris Vseslavich Scholarship for the Study and Popularization of Medieval Heritage at the European Humanities University (Vilnius, Lithuania) in 2020.

Over the years, he has authored and co-authored several major works that have significantly advanced the understanding of the region’s monetary history: Russian Medieval Coins (co-authored by Konstantin Petrunin: 2017, 2022), Lithuanian Coins 1495-1536 (co-authored by Giedrius Bagdonas: 2021, 2025), Fur Money of Ancient Rus’ (co-authored by Mikalai Darashkevich: 2018).

Beyond his academic pursuits, Huletski has actively contributed to modern numismatics by advocating for digital solutions in coin cataloguing. His expertise in software development has allowed him to bridge the gap between traditional numismatic research and modern technological applications, creating tools that facilitate the study and documentation of coins. The digital numismatic projects to which he is a dedicated contributor include Numista, a leading online database of numismatics with nearly half a million items listed. He is also one of the creators of the Seals of Ancient Rus’ database, a project focused on the study and cataloguing of historical seals for documents and for money from Kievan Rus’, providing valuable resources for researchers and enthusiasts alike.

Huletski remains deeply engaged in numismatic studies, participating in international conferences and collaborating with institutions and collectors worldwide. His work continues to shape the field, ensuring that the numismatic heritage of Eastern Europe is preserved and better understood.
