Otto, Michael
Numismatic All-Rounder and Head of Numismatics at SINCONA
Michael Otto (*1974) is a passionate coin dealer. He has been collecting coins since the age of 10. His father, Manfred Otto, founded the first private coin shop in East Berlin shortly after the Fall of the Berlin Wall, even before German reunification. In April 1992, his father’s shop opened in Pankow, and Michael Otto completed an apprenticeship as a retail salesman there.
Michael Otto took over the business from his father in 2003. From 2007 to 2015, he worked as a representative for the German auction house Künker in Berlin. After a few years of self-employment, Michael Otto became Head of Numismatics at SINCONA on 1 January 2025.
Michael Otto is a numismatic all-rounder who is proficient in all the fields German collectors are interested in. In addition, he specialised early on in issues from China and East Asia, as well as paper money.
For him, history always comes first. If he is interested in a topic from a historical point of view, he will start to collect the coins associated with it. This is how his large collection of issues of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta came about, which was auctioned at Künker in the spring of 2014.
Michael Otto is a long-standing member of the association of the German coin trade (Berufsverband des Deutschen Münzenfachhandels), a membership he gave up together with his self-employment.
