Vico Belmonte, Jesús

Jesús Vico Belmonte (*1984) was born into a numismatic family. His father has been active in the coin market since 1971 and founded the numismatic auction house Jesús Vico S.A. in 1986. As a result, Jesús grew up surrounded by ancient coins, and numismatics permeated every facet of his family’s daily life. As a child, he played with coins and he accompanied his family to numerous events and exhibitions.

Jesús Vico Belmonte then went on to study Law and Business Administration and Management at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. During his time at university, he began helping out at coin shows, and when he attended the IAPN congress in Washington in 2009, he knew that this was his future. In 2009, even before graduating in 2010, he joined the family business to become a professional numismatist. By now, he has taken over as Director of the business. Moreover, Jesús is also Numismatist Manager at VCoins.com.

Having grown up with ancient coins, classical numismatics is a field very close to his heart, especially when it comes to the coins of the Roman Republic. He is also highly interested in Spanish coinage, particularly the issues of the Reyes Católicos and the Segovia mint.

Sharing knowledge is very important to Jesús, which is why he has given lectures to Masters students and participated in conferences at various institutions and universities throughout Spain, including the Real Casa de la Moneda, the Universidad Autónoma, the Universidad Complutense and the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos.

In 2015, he became the youngest candidate ever to be appointed Vice-President of the International Association of Professional Numismatists (IAPN), a position he has held ever since. In addition, Jesús has been President of the Asociación Española de Numismáticos Profesionales (AENP) since 2016.

In collaboration with Sedwick Coins and Luis Domingo, Jesús Vico Belmonte is the man behind the Evento Numismático Internacional Madrid 2024, a large-scale numismatic event for the entire Spanish-speaking world, combining a coin show, conferences and an extensive cultural programme.
