García-Barneche, Agustin ‘Augi’
Agustin García-Barneche, widely known as Augi, has been an indispensable member of Daniel Frank Sedwick, LLC since June 2008, dedicating his expertise full-time to Spanish colonial coinage. As a Partner and the Vice President of International Numismatics, Augi plays a pivotal role in managing each auction.
Originally from South America, Augi has over 22 years of experience in colonial materials. He has built a robust network of contacts throughout Latin America, establishing strong relationships within the numismatic community. Strategically, Augi is now focusing on expanding the reach and services of Sedwick & Associates, LLC (starting July 2024) to key markets in Latin America and Spain.
Beyond his numismatic expertise, Augi has made significant contributions to the field through his writings. In 2006, he authored “The Macuquina Code” to assist fellow researchers with numismatic and colonial terms in Spanish. His notable work, “The Tumbaga Saga: Treasure of the Conquistadors” (2010), explores the silver treasure bars manufactured during the conquest of Hernán Cortés. A second edition was released in 2018, followed by a Spanish edition in 2019. His most recent contribution, in 2022, was a collaboration on Ignacio Gutierrez’s book “Los Doblones de A Ocho Escudos (2023),” in which he published a chapter titled “Inversión Vs. Refugio – La Psicología Del Coleccionista (2022).”
Augi is also a respected member of several professional organizations, including the American Numismatic Association, the American Numismatic Society, the International Association of Professional Numismatists, and Florida United Numismatists. Currently, he is a board member of the Executive Committee of IFINRA (Federal Institute of Numismatic Researchers of the Argentine Republic). He holds an associate degree in visual communications and graphic design.
Since 2023, Sedwick and Vico have engaged in a collaborative partnership. The International Numismatic Event Madrid 2024 is part of several projects where they will work together, blending the best of the new and old worlds. This collaboration is crucial, as both companies have co-existed with prior generations, and their cooperation will be essential for future successful business endeavors. “Organizing this event would not have been possible without the roles of Jesús Vico Belmonte and Luis Domingo,” Augi stated. “I am very honored to be part of this event.”
