Ancient historian and numismatic consultant

Valentina Grigorova-Gencheva (*1966) is ancient historian, numismatist and head of the department for precious metal investment consultation at a Bulgarian Investment Bank.

After finishing her studies in Old and Medieval History, majoring Ancient History and Roman Numismatics, in Sofia (1985-1990) with a Master’s Degree, she obtained a Doctorate Degree in Ancient History and Numismatics at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland.

From 1995 to 2000, she worked as an auction expert in Germany and Switzerland, and, from 1997 to 1999 she was Assistant Professor and Visiting Lecturer in Numismatics at the University of Fribourg. During the summer campaigns of the excavations carried out by the École Française d’Athènes (French Archaeological School) in Argos, Greece, she served as Deputy Director (1998-2000).

After having initiated the establishment of a department at the First Investment Bank of Bulgaria in Sofia in 2001, specialized in precious metals investment consultations as well as numismatic evaluations, she serves at its head ever since.

She worked as an appraiser and expert for the Culture and Media Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria from 2006 to 2009. Since 2008, she is a visiting lecturer in History, Numismatics and Cultural Management at St. Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia, Bulgaria; and since 2016 she is also a visiting lecturer in Bank Management and Investment Activities at the University of Finance, Business and Entrepreneurship (VUZF) in Sofia.
