Naville Numismatics (NN) presents its Live Auction 95. The sale will close on Sunday 27th April 2025, 16.00 UK time, at which time the live session will begin. Absentee bidders can bid electronically through Naville Numismatics website from the day the sale is published online up to the start of the live session. The auction features a selection of 907 lots of Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Medieval and Modern coins, all chosen with contribution from NAC’s experts.
For customers who buy through NAC Europe – please note that due to increased costs and factors beyond our control, the option to ship via Belgium will only be offered on purchases greater than £500. Purchases under this amount will be shipped from the UK via Royal Mail, or if the client specifies an alternate service. We will offer the option to combine invoices from several auctions in order to reach the £500 threshold, whereby the client can receive multiple purchases via Belgium in one shipment. Lot 233: The Ptolemies. Ptolemy III Euergetes (246-222 BC). Alexandria Mnaieion / Oktadrachm, circa 219-217 BC. Posthumous issue under Ptolemy IV. About Extremely Fine. Starting price: 8,000 GBP.
The first section of the sale starts with a small selection of staters of the Vindelici, a well preserved didrachm of Himera, a nice tetradrachm of Leontini (Ex CNG 84, 2010, 110; CNG 102, 2016, 108 and Oslo Myntgalleri 21, 2020, 32 sales. From the Allan Smith M.D. collection and a From a Scandinavian private collection), a rare tetradrachm of Messana (Ex Auctioned sale 26, 1996, 59), a rare drachm of Syracuse (Ex NAC sale 59, 1575), a nice tetradrachm of the Carthaginians (Ex Spink Numismatic Circular July 1988, 4356 and Spink 18006, 2018, 1029 and Oslo Myntgalleri 25, 2021, 1066 sales. From the Gray collection), a well preserved tetradrachm of Perseus, an Archaic tetradrachm of Athens, a very rare stater of Kybernis (Ex M&M Fixed Price List 383, 1976, 15), a nice shekel of Tyre and a rare and well preserved bronze of Cleopatra VII minted at Damascus.
Moreover in this part, an interesting selection of Phocis and Locris duplicates of the BCD collection, a nice selection of Athens, an interesting group of Hellenistic coins and a series of coins of Tarentum, Metapontum, Croton, Aegina, Seleucid kings, Judaea, Phoenicia, Arabia and Egypt. Noteworthy in this section are a stater of Alexander III and an octodrachm of Ptolemy III (Ex CNG sale 121, 588).

Lot 511: Egypt, Alexandria. Lucius Verus (161-169). Drachm, circa 166-167 (year 7). Illustrated in Dattari 1901 edition. From the Dattari collection. About Extremely Fine. Starting price: 500 GBP.
The Roman Provincial part of the sale includes rare and interesting specimens and a wonderful selection of rare coins of Alexandria, some of them from the Dattari collection.

Lot 625: Marcus Antonius. Denarius, 38. From the collection of John Quincy Adams. Very fine. Starting price: 100 GBP.
The Roman selection boasts an interesting series of Roman Republican bronzes and a striking array of denarii. This includes a nice selection of cast bronze, a very rare sextans of M Series, a very rare As of CA series, a well preserved denarius of C. Iulius Caesar, a rare denarius of Marcus Antonius (From the collection of John Quincy Adams, 6th President of the USA (1825-1829) and a nice bronze of Octavian (Privately purchased from Muenzen und Medaillen Basel 1965).

Lot 638: Tiberius (14-37). Aureus, Lugdunum, circa 14-37. Good Very fine. Starting price: 2,000 GBP.
The Imperial selection of the sale features an attractive series of Augustus and also an attractive selection of Roman gold, bronzes and silver coins, such as a nice tetradrachm of Augustus, a rare sestertius of Nero, a rare dupondius of Nero (Ex CNG e-sale 370, 2016, 385. From the J. Eric Engstrom Collection), a well preserved sestertius of Trajan, a selection of denari and bronzes of Hadrian, a well preserved tetradrachm of Septimius Severus and a very rare sestertius of Caracalla (Ex Harlan J. Berk), even beyond an interesting selection of Solidi, Denari, Antoniniani, Sesterti, Dupondi, Asses and Folles. Very remarkable in this part are an aureus of Tiberius, a solidus of Valentinian (Ex Oslo Myntgalleri sale 11) and a vey rare and well preserved solidus of Leo II and Zeno (Ex NAC 64, 2012, 2774).
The Byzantine part includes a very interesting selection solidi and glasses, neverthless the Medieval and Modern part of sale includes a nice selection of World Gold coins.
