Naville Numismatics presents its Live Auction 90. The auction will close on Sunday 23rd June 2024, 16.00 UK time, at which time the live session will begin.

The auction features a selection of 1020 lots of Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Medieval and Modern coins, all chosen with contribution from NAC’s experts. In this sale we are pleased to sell the Tenby collection of Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Modern coins where each one is sold with the original collector’s ticket.

The first section of the sale starts with a rare bronze of Cosa, a rare bronze of Venusia (Ex Anders collection), a nice nomos of Terina, an interesting tetradrachm of Agrigentum (From the Mentor collection), a nice didrachm of Himera, a well preserved bronze of Lopadusa, an interesting selection of Carthaginians bronzes, a rare tetradrachm of Nikokreon and a very rare triobol of Ptolemy I.

Moreover in this part, a nice selection of Athens, an interesting group of Hellenistic coins and a series of coins of Tarentum, Metapontum, Croton, Athens, Corinth, Seleucid kings, Judaea, Phoenicia, Arabia and Egypt.

Noteworthy in this section are a wonderful litra of Naxos signed by Prokles, a stater of Carthage, a rare tetradrachm of Tenedos and a well preserved tetradrachm of Ptolemy V (Ex NAC sale 120, 2020, 463)

The Roman Provincial part of the sale includes rare and interesting specimens and a wonderful selection of rare coins of Alexandria.

The Roman selection boasts an interesting series of Roman Republican bronzes and a striking array of denarii.

This includes a nice didrachm, an interesting selection of rare bronzes, a well preserved denarius of L. Mussidius Longus and a rare plated denarius of C. Cassius Longinus.

The Imperial selection of the sale features an attractive series of Augustus and also an attractive selection of Roman gold, bronzes and silver coins such as an apparently unpublished sestertius of Nero (Ex Hirsch sale 260, 2009, 1960), a very rare tetradrachm of Cyprus for Vespasian, an aureus of Trajan, a solidus of Valentinian I, a solidus of Valens, a selection of follis from the Rauceby Hoard, found in Lincolnshire, July 2017 (submitted for consideration as Treasure and returned to the finders. PAS ID: LIN-F6D516. BM Ref: 2017 T649), a rare follis of Divus Romolus, even beyond an interesting selection of Solidi, Denari, Antoniniani, Sesterti, Dupondi, Asses and Folles.

Very remarkable in this part are a well struck aureus of Trajan, a wonderful and well preserved denarius of Diva Paulina and a magnificent and very rare follis of Domitius Domiatianus.

The Byzantine part includes a very interesting selection of specimens such a very rare solidus of Constans, neverthless the Medieval and Modern part of sale includes a nice group of coins from several foreign countries.
