Solidus presents Auction 140 with 644 attractive lots. The auction will take place on Wednesday, 19 February 2025, from 15:00 as a live auction on the Auex platform. Bids can already be placed.
The auction contains a comprehensive selection of ancient coins, including numerous attractive Greek and Roman Provincial silver coins with beautiful Tetradrachms. The Roman imperial period is represented with many extraordinarily well preserved Denarii and Antoniniani, often in mint state. An aureus of Hadrianus with Hispania on the reverse is a highlight. There is a series of beautiful gold coins from late antiquity and Byzantium. Many coins of the Islamic world are on offer. Among those are many rarities, e. g. Ottoman gold coins and an Ilkhanid donative medaillon of Uljaytu having the weight of four Dinars. The auction ends with attractive coin groups that are very favourably estimated. Here are some highlights of the auction:
Lot 1037: Kingdom Lydia. Alyattes – Kroisos. 1/3 Stater (Elektron) Sardeis. 605 – 540 B.C. Very fine. Estimate: 600 EUR.
Lot 1273: Hadrianus. Aureus, Rome, 130 – 133 A.D. Hispania. Rare. Tiny scratches, extremely fine, traces of lustre between the letters and at the edges of the strike. Estimate: 16,000 EUR.
Los 1436: Byzantine Empire. Theodora (1055 – 1056). Histamenon (Gold). Constantinopolis. About mint state. Estimate: 2,500 EUR.
Los 1533: Ilkhanids. Uljaytu Donative to 4 dinars (gold). 709 H. (1310), Madinat-as-Salam (Ba’dad). 18,23 g Extremely rare in this size and weight. Well centered, slight embossing weaknesses on the edge, minimal proof mark on the edge, extremely fine. Estimate: 14,500 EUR.
