Karia, Knidos. AR Drachm, 6.27g. 17mm. c.465-449 B.C. Forepart of lion to right. Rev. Diademed head of Aphrodite to right; die break beneath bust. Cahn 78.2 (this example). Lovely old cabinet toning and fine style. This coin is struck from the same dies as the Kunstfreunde example, Leu & MM, 1974, lot 163 and NAC 146, lot 2224. Macedonian Kings, Alexander III (336-323 B.C.) AR Tetradrachm, 17.12g. 30mm. Rhodes mint, Stassion magistrate, c.201-190 B.C. Head of Herakles wearing lion’s skin to right. Rev. Zeus enthroned to left holding eagle and scepter; “STASSION” to left and “PO” below the throne (the ethnic abbreviation for Rhodes); rose in field to left. Price 2517. Luster under medium gray toning and scarce in this high quality. Price notes that the Rhodes mint issues were of limited production with several of the magistrates sharing the same obverse die. Stassion’s name also appears on the autonomous Rhodian coinage of the period and must have been from one of the wealthy Rhodian families. Oath taking scene with two soldiers flanking a kneeling youth holding a sacrificial pig; retrograde Oscan legend, “c paapi” in retrograde; minute flan defect at 1:00 reverse. Campana 94. Sydenham 640a. RBW 1226. Historia Nummorum, Italy 428. Toned. Scarce and with a remarkably complete inscription for the name of C. Paapius C.F, Mutilus Imperator, one of the leading generals in the Italic war against Rome. Provenance/Pedigrees: Ex: Triton III, NY, 1999, lot 897. CONSTANTIVS AVG; SIS* in exergue. Three palm branches; star above. RIC 64. Cohen 10. The three branches represent the three young Augusti; Constantine II, Constantius II, and Constans (cf.
