Classical Numismatic Group presents their Islamic Auction 9 to be held in The Cayley Room, De Morgan House, 57-58 Russell Square, London WC1B 4HS. The sale features 529 lots of coins from the Islamic world, it will be held in two sessions on the afternoons of Thursday 24 and Friday 25 April 2025. Both sessions will begin at 2 PM BST / 9 AM EST.
This auction is highlighted by a number of rarities, including:
- An Arab-Byzantine solidus with an unpublished legend
- A unique Umayyad dirham from the mint of Maskin
- An unpublished ‘Abbasid dinar from al-Mawsil
- A Fatimid dinar from al-Mahdiya, struck in AH 337 during the month of Rajab
- A gold dinar of Saladin, struck at Damascus after the Battle of Hattin
- A superb gold dinar of Nafi’ b. ‘Abdallah, struck in Oman in AH 354
- A unique dirham of the short-lived Omani governor ‘Abd al-Wahhab b. Ahmad
- Three silver dirhams from the Zanj Rebellion
- Four impressive Samanid and Ghaznavid medallions
- A Safavid six-shahi of Isma’il I, struck at Urdu in AH 913
The sale also features further coins and glass weights from the Collection of an Alexandrine Numismatist, as well as an interesting and extensive collection of Islamic pictorial bronze coins (lots 416-465). See some highlights here:
