San Marino: 50th Anniversary of the Declaration of Civil Rights and Fundamental Principles of the Legal System of San Marino
The first 2024 2-euro commemorative coin from San Marino was officially released on 23 April 2024. In May, it was offered for the first time by coin dealers throughout Europe, and subscribers who had ordered the coin directly from the San Marino sales office received the piece by mail. The coin, which celebrates the 50th Anniversary of the Declaration of Civil Rights and Fundamental Principles of the Legal System of San Marino, has a mintage of 56,000 specimens and was issued in a coin card.
It is interesting for collectors to note that the market price of the current San Marino commemorative coin has stabilised at 30 euros; while last year’s issues are traded between 40 to 50 euros each. The coin depicts a legal code with the inscription “I DIRITTI DELLA PERSONA UMANA SONO INVIOLABILI” (The rights of the individual are inviolable). There are also schematic representations of the Palazzo Pubblico as well as the Statua della Libertà in the background.
Belgium: Fight Against Cancer
On 13 May 2024, Belgium issued its second 2-euro commemorative coin of the year. The coin’s theme is “Fight against cancer”, and a total of 125,000 specimens were issued. These will be sold exclusively in coin cards, which exist in two language versions. In addition, Belgium minted a total of 5,000 specimens in Proof quality. The coin depicts a rainbow as a symbol of hope for a cancer-free world. It also features a heart rate graph in the form of an awareness ribbon – a symbol of solidarity.
Estonia: The Cornflower as Estonia’s National Flower
As part of a series on national symbols, Estonia issued a 2-euro commemorative coin on 21 May 2024, showing the cornflower, Estonia’s national flower. It has a mintage figure of 1,000,000 specimens, 12,000 of which were released in a coin card.
Moreover, the design for Estonia’s 2025 2-euro commemorative coin has also been unveiled. It is dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the first printed text in Estonian. The design shows four books, forming the letter “E”.
Outlook
Only one 2-euro commemorative coin has been officially announced for June – France’s coin for the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games, featuring the Eiffel Tower, wrapped around a torch. Collectors should keep an eye out for this coin, as it will be the first time in many years for France to issue a special Proof edition with official colour application. Collectors of Monaco specimens are also in for an exciting time – in previous years, new 2-euro commemorative coins from the Principality have often been released in June!
