Managing Director of Leu Numismatik Germany (f/m/d, 100%)

We are seeking an experienced and entrepreneurial leader to head our newly established German subsidiary. Leu Numismatik is an internationally active company specializing in the trade of coins from antiquity, the Middle Ages, and the modern era. As Managing Director, you will play a key role in shaping and developing our presence in Germany.

Your Responsibilities

1) Strategic and operational development of the German subsidiary in close collaboration with the executive team at Leu Numismatik AG and local legal advisors:

  • Establish and lead the German business structure (including office location search, initial setup: safe, security concept, office furniture, internet, telephony, IT infrastructure, copier, etc.)
  • Develop and implement business strategies and objectives
  • Ensure compliance with all legal, tax, and industry-specific regulations (e.g., AML, cultural property protection, import/export, KYC policies, etc.)
  • Embed and communicate the strategic vision of Leu Numismatik AG
  • Contribute to the establishment of additional German offices

2) Professional Oversight of the Subsidiary

  • Acquisition of auction consignments
  • Welcoming clients and receiving consignments
  • Assessment and valuation of ancient, medieval, and modern coins in consultation with Leu Numismatik AG’s experts and management
  • Data entry into Leu Numismatik AG’s ERP system (inventory management)
  • Photography and cataloging of auction consignments
  • Preparing consignments for export to Winterthur (EORI number, logistics, export documentation, customs, export licenses if applicable)
  • Planning and participation in fairs, auctions, and professional events domestically and abroad (e.g., World Money Fair Berlin, Numismata Munich, potentially also Frankfurt and Stuttgart)

3) Team Building and Leadership

  • Recruitment, leadership, and development of the local team
  • Establishing a company culture based on expertise, integrity, and customer service

4) Financial Responsibility

  • Budget planning, financial control, and reporting
  • Ensuring profitability and sustainable growth of the subsidiary
  • Authority to approve advance payments in coordination with Leu Numismatik AG’s executive team

5) Marketing and Client Relations

  • Development of marketing strategies for the German market (both digital and traditional)
  • Building and nurturing long-term relationships with collectors, dealers, associations, investors, auction houses, and institutions (universities, museums, banks, asset managers, family offices, etc.)

6) Collaboration with the Parent Company

  • Close coordination with Leu Numismatik AG on strategy, acquisitions, and reporting
  • Representing the subsidiary within the broader international group

 

Your Profile

1) Professional Qualifications

  • In-depth and long-standing knowledge of numismatics – ideally with a focus on ancient, medieval, and/or modern coins
  • Experience in national and international coin trading, auctions, and the building/sale of collections
  • Sound understanding of business and legal principles (e.g., through academic study, training, or demonstrated practical experience)
  • Experience in establishing or managing a business unit is a strong asset

2) Entrepreneurial Thinking & Hands-on Approach

  • Willingness to manage the subsidiary with full entrepreneurial responsibility
  • Ability to think strategically and act operationally
  • Decisiveness and a strong sense of responsibility

3) Leadership & Team Skills

  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to build and motivate a small to mid-sized team
  • Excellent communication skills and professional demeanor
  • Intercultural competence for collaboration with the parent company and international clientele

4) Client Orientation & Sales Acumen

  • Strong service orientation and client focus
  • Confident negotiator for both low- and high-value acquisitions
  • Ability to foster long-term, trust-based client relationships

5) Language Skills

  • Native-level German
  • Excellent to outstanding English skills, both written and spoken (native or C1/C2 level)
  • Additional languages (e.g., French, Italian, Spanish) are a plus
