Your new job

As a university assistant you actively participate in research and teaching at the Department of Numismatics and Monetary History as well as in its administration.

What you do exactly

  • You prepare a PhD thesis in ancient numismatics and monetary history (a formal PhD agreement must be signed by the end of the first year of your contract); the thesis is expected to be ready for publication by the end of the fourth year.
  • You start to build up a research profile in the field of ancient numismatics.
  • You give university courses according to the requirements specified in the collective agreement for PhD students.
  • You assist in the supervision of students.
  • You contribute to initiatives of evaluation and quality assurance at the department.
  • You assist in the preperation of scholarly publications and in projects and are part of the team organising events at the department.
  • You contribute to the administration of research and teaching at the department.

Your competences

  • MA or Master’s degree (or equivalent) in numismatics and monetary history, or in a related subject with an affinity to numismatics (ancient history, classical archaeology vel sim.), with excellent grades.
  • Ability to work in a team and organisational skills.
  • Broad IT user skills.
  • Languages: German, English, Latin

What we offer

We offer a position in one of the world’s leading centres for research and teaching in numismatics and monetary history.

Fair salary: The basic salary of EUR 3.578,80 (14 times a year) increases if we can credit professional experience. The employment duration is 3 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to 3 years if the employer does not terminate it within the first 12 months by submitting a declaration of non-extension. With appropiate work progress, an extension to a total maximum of 4 years is possible.
