Classical Numismatic Group presents the Islamic Auction 5, to be held in two sessions. Session 1, a live sale, will be held in the rooms of the London Mathematical Society, 57-58 Russell Square, London WC1B 4HS on 18 April 2024 beginning at 2 PM BST (9 AM EST). Session 2, an electronic sale, will close beginning at 2 PM BST (9 AM EST) on 19 April 2024. Together, this sale features 700 lots with a pre-sale estimate of nearly $1 million.

This auction is highlighted by a number of rarities, including:

A superb Mamluk gold dinar naming Shajar al-Durr
An Arab-Sasanian drachm naming al-Bara b. al-Qabisa
An Arab-Byzantine gold solidus
Umayyad dirhams from Bazija Khusra and Tustar
A unique ‘Abbasid dinar from Arrajan
A Fatimid dinar from Madinat Rasul Allah
Two Fatimid dinars struck in Baghdad by al-Basasiri
Two Saffarid dirhams from Oman
A Sallarid double-dinar naming the Seven Isma‘ili Imams

Here you can find some highlights:

Lot 6: Pre-reform issues, Arab-Sasanian. al-Hajjaj b. Yusuf and Bara b. Qabisa (AH 75-95 / AD 694-713). Drachm, AH 76 (AD 695/6), Jayy mint. Good Very Fine. Estimate: $40,000.

Lot 10: Pre-reform issues, Arab-Byzantine. Gold issues. Solidus. Without mint-name. Undated. Good Very Fine, traces of mounting on edge, tooling in fields on reverse. Estimate: $30,000.

Lot 70: ‘Abbasid Caliphate. Al-Muqtadir (Second reign, AH 296-317 / AD 908-929). Dinar, AH 301 (AD 913/14), Arrajan mint. Good Very Fine, minor weakness in margins on both sides. Estimate: $40,000.
