Leu Numismatik AG

Auction 15

Coins

1 June 2024

CH-Zurich

Leu Auction 15 will feature an impressive array of numismatic treasures, spanning from the invention of coinage in the 7th century BC to the mid-Byzantine period of the 11th century AD. The auction will close on 1st June 2024 at 1:00 PM in Zurich and includes 350 lots, with a special focus on an outstanding series of Greek coins (lots 5-178), many of which boast excellent old provenances. Of particular scholarly interest is the remarkable series of the earliest electrum coins from the 7th century BC (lots 90-105), offering insights into the very beginnings of coinage. Following this, we present an impressive selection of Roman Republican (lots 197-227) and Roman Imperial coins (lots 228-325), featuring particularly noteworthy denarii and a substantial number of aurei. Concluding the auction is a small but exquisite group of Byzantine coins (lots 326-333), complemented by a Crusader seal (lot 334) and a selection of Aurum Barbarorum coins (lots 335-350).
