1 June 2024

CH-Zurich

Leu Auction 15, held on June 1st, was a great success, surpassing all expectations with a total hammer of 1,831,043 CHF against a pre-sale estimate of 1,027,100 CHF. The impressive 100% sell-through rate of the 350 lots further underscores the current strength of the numismatic market.

Auctioneers, who over the years have developed a keen sense of market trends and collector interests, can often predict which coins and collecting areas will attract significant attention. However, auctions – derived from the Latin word “augere,” meaning “to increase” or “to enhance” – always hold surprises. The true interest in an auction only becomes apparent in the moment, whether in the room, on the phone, or online. Thus, not only did well-known types achieve record prices, but less conspicuous coins also garnered considerable attention. Many collectors have their personal favorites, and it is this individual engagement with the cultural heritage of our ancestors that makes coin collecting such a unique pursuit. All in all, the outstanding results of Leu Auction 15 not only highlight the vibrancy of the coin market but also demonstrate the dedication and enthusiasm of collectors worldwide.
